crimson fig blushed and ripe
jeweled in recent rain
hungry teeth pierce the flesh
to leave a scarlet stain
Author's Notes/Comments:
Sappho's poetry talked about ripe apples and harvesters and flowers smashed on the
ground. They, of course, allude to virginity honored then lost. Dozens of
poets have followed suit, so I thought I'd add my version to the mix.
A very nice short poem. Meena
Dear Karen, Very nice. I like this poem and the idea. I really enjoy works by Sappho. I love the entire Greek Myth thing. Anyway good poem. Hope you don't mind if I write about Sappho. I am going to read more of your poems. I'll write more later. BYE! Teresa
Right to the point, I liked it.

"Jewelled in recent rain" That line alone brings wonderful images to my mind. Wonderfully erotic & beautifully written!! Amy

Yes, she loved hard. Good tribute.
Powerfully condensed! Evokes strength.
Karen, Just caught that you titled it~! I love it. It really is a piece to be proud of :)
What about titling the piece? Sappho's Fruit or Sappho's Harvest? I like it alot.(The poem) :) Yes, fruit is a classic metaphor for virginity... Apples, cherries, banana's all ancient phallic symbols. Very poetic of you~ I love it, but do feel it would be better recieved with a title.
