There's people in the city

And people in the country

They talk like we are,

But we ain't much different



Workin all day long

Just to earn a little money

Puttin in those long hours

To put the kids through school



This is the America I know

The America I know



Flags flyin proud out in the yard

Little kids pushin mowers around

And come Fourth of July

The parade gets together the entire town



Hard times in the neighborhood

But they say each to his own

We're just tryin to do good

So just leave us alone



And this is the America, that I've always known

The America I know



A young man joins the Army

And they send him across seas

He's just servin his coutry

Fightin for you and me



And there's people who don't

Want any part of us no more

They're scared we'll do them wrong

They're our own people, but I know



That this is America, I've always known

Which way the flag blows

This old flag might be all I have to show

But this is the America I know



I have faith in the Lord up above

And I love my country to the day I die

I am just tryin to do the best that I can

Don't even wonder any reasons why



Not all people are gonna be rich

But that's just okay by me

I don't need all that money anyway

Because all I need, is just to be free



I live way out in the big ol' country

And I live by a little bitty small town

I went to an itty bitty little school

And this is the place where I found



I found my sweet little princess

I found my sweet little pride and joy

My small town, American girl

And havin her, that's enough for me



This is the America I've always known

Yeah this is the America I  know

This is the America I will always love

Thank the good Lord up above

For this country I've always known
