Today I woke and knew it was my day to die.
I ate my breakfast and kissed my wife.
I watched the morning news and made the bed.
I knew the next day I'd be dead.
Today I woke and knew tomorrow I'd be gone.
I went to work and mowed the lawn.
I picked up the kids and then came home.
I knew in hours they'd be on their own.
Yet I knew my going must be fated-
For, this morning when I woke,
I was elated.
