jess

oh the milestones

    come and go

  ghosts flitting with fast wings

    through old homes

outside the window a blue jay sings

  todays the day of everything

do you count the seconds away?

hold doubt in the shortening days?

I hear muffled congrats

   and applause

the celebration of our death

   and our flaws

chewing the cold fat

running our hands over our dull claws

todays the day

   it became what it was

a damned good legend

it was a lonely day

it never used to be this way

oh, the milestones that come and go

year after year since home

flitting fireflies dying at my window

but you are the constant glow

not bad, what we've done

how far we've come

come apart, together, and undone

todays the day

we lost so much, fought, and won

I remember where I came from

we are a warriors breed

And for my homeland, I bleed

we are the true blood brothers, you and me...

oh the words, they come and go

smile and weep for each passing stone

todays the day that started everything

and this morning a timer buzzed

the hour at which it became what it truly was

a damned good legend
