I was waiting on the terminal waiting to catch my flight back home. Things did not work out in this city and despite my best efforts I had to fly back home for my family’s help. As I wondered my situation a well-dressed man in a suit approached me holding nothing but a small box in his hands. He asked me for a favor. To carry the little box across the gate onto the plane and then give it back to him. He said there was money involved. I told him I didn’t have time for things like that and asked him to leave me alone.
The man continued to pester me despite my lack of interest, but he seemed set on convincing me. “Look, just carry this for me onto the plane. It’s already passed through security and everything. Trust me,” the man said as he fixed his tie and pulled his sleeve to check the time. I felt a little uneasy about his aggressive demeanor but I had no reason to doubt him; if it had made it past the airport security, how bad could it be? Even so I felt a little uneasy.
“Come on. It’s easy money” he said as he egged the small box towards me. Why not ask someone else? Or just put it in his pocket? I wondered, puzzled by the situation.
“Alright, well, what’s in it?” I asked. If it’s something he can’t carry himself it must be something dangerous or illegal. My mind wandered through the possibilities but it was impossible to tell.
“Don’t worry about it. Just take it, walk through the gate, and give it back to me. It’s that simple.” He said in a slightly irritated voice, like the voice a mother would use on her disobedient child.
The mystery continued to intrigue me but the man was starting to lose his patience so I had to make a decision. “Alright, give it to me.” I said as I held out my hand, figuring I didn’t have enough time to solve every mystery I come across.
