Here’s something about Christmas our parents never told us…but something we’ve come to know…our Christmas list gets shorter and shorter the more and more we grow.
‘Dear Santa’ we wrote when we were young, ‘I’ve been good this year…the kind of child parents adore…and on the following pages you will find all the toys I’m asking for.
When we become a teenager…as all children do…
Our list shortens to money, or clothing…perhaps a gift certificate or two.
Our perspective changes when we become adults…with a family…a partner…a wife…our Christmas list is that our friends and family be healthy…
free from evil…free from strife.
We don’t know exactly when it happens…but somewhere in the course of the life we’re living…the joy we felt from receiving gifts….turns into the joy of giving.
Then we reach an age when we smile…thinking how through the years our wishes have decreased…and we are left with one…we wish for a world at peace.
A world of love and acceptance…without hatred or the need for war and guns…
where all 6 billion different people finally realized…we are 6 billion…but we are one.
Santa, we write, I know this is a tall order…this one wish I’m sending you…
but for someone who visits 6 billion people in one night…
I believe it’s something you can do!
And If you make this one wish come true…
if next year we are fortunate enough to live as one in a world of peace and joy…
on my Christmas list next year…
I believe you’ll find some toys.
