My grandmother kept her rosary on her purse, she would carry with it all the time whether she were on the church, on her house, on a family reunion and even when she traveled. That particular rosary was made out of silver and small amounts of gold over the crucifix. She got that rosary from her mother the day she got married and everyday since that day she carried out with it. She was a very catholic woman; everyday she woke up early to get in time for six a.m. mass at the church near her house and also at the afternoon you could see her praying at her room and with her rosary on one hand. Every Christmas we went to the church and later the whole family got together in order to pray, after that my grandmother used to make some kind of raffle between my aunts including her friends and my mother and the winner would receive one new rosary from her. This became a tradition as years went by. She had her room full of catholic images, prayers and other rosaries but that particular one was very special to her so she cleaned it every night and left it by her bed, the next day she would wake up, then look up for her purse and leave the rosary there so every time she had to get out of the house she always could had it with her. Once one of her friends traveled to the Vatican and brought to her one new rosary blessed by the Pope, she was very happy and excited but even that the Pope blessed that one she still kept using her special rosary, the one that her mother gave to her. It was very impressive to me the strong faith my grandmother had, she was an extraordinary woman, she didn’t care if it was raining, freezing, very hot or not she still went to six a.m. mass. Only when she was sick she couldn’t go to the mass but instead she would look at it on TV, so she could never loose one day without it. Every time I see one rosary it comes to my mind the picture of my grandmother sitting on her bed praying with her rosary on her hands and as always smiling at me.
