Grandfather´s pen
Since I can remember, everytime I visited my grandparent in his house, I would find him in his office signing papers and contracts with his electric-blue pen. If there is one way to describe my grandparent it would be as a hard working businessman. He has dedicated all of his life to his own work and his family. As a father of six, my grandfather has always made his responsibility to provide everything he could to his children. This pen has always been there, in his hand, making sure no mistakes were made. There’s no particular reason why this pen grabbed my attention this way. Maybe it was his unique handwriting, the way he moved his hand or the beautiful blue color that made this pen shine, but something about this pen is very special and makes me see it as no ordinary pen. When I was young, I wondered how he managed to not lose this pen throughout the years and why the pen would never run out of ink. Later I discovered that my grandparent would put new ink into the pen constantly. And that he would never take it anywhere away from his desk. That´s why he never lost it. This made a lot of sense to me, because I also had observed that my grandparent had a few valuable possesions that he couldn´t bare to lose. This pen was one of this possesions. One day I went on and asked him what was the background of this pen. My grandfather told me that the pen was a gift to him, from one of his friends that gave it to him in his 18th birthday. This friend of his died a week after that. My grandfather said that this pen reminded him of who he was and what truly matters in this life. Since my grandfather retired, I stopped seeing the pen in his hand, but everytime I went into his office, I would find the pen in his desk. The last time I saw this pen was after my grandparent´s death. Just after he died, I went to his house and into his office. I found the pen right where he had always left it. I sat down in his chair and looked up. Right next to the pen, I found a picture of the whole family. I grabbed the pen, looked closely at it and left it where I found it. I never saw that pen again.
