faceless people who wear masks
at one time i was one who walked such a path
don the mask and play the part
don't break character, learn the art
pretend you're fine, when nothing's right
prove that they're not so bright
you can fool them, but can you fool yourself?
most likely not, but on the shelf
lies a cure, or distraction at least
because for now it seems to release
feelings of doubt, or pain, or anger
it makes it all better, but makes you a stranger
to yourself, it divorces the mind
from things it no longer wishes to find
cropping up in thoughts often wrought
in pain and suffering, and so often caught
in the midst of strife, sometimes without cause
but always, always, accentuated by flaws
of others, of yours, of mine, and they're to blame
for everything, but I bear the pain so plain
