I pulled out the bloody blade. My shirt seeping in the warm red liquid. I felt no immediate pain, my adrenaline on high. Weakness overcame and I fell to my knees. A small pool began to form underneath where I slumped. The pain came now, something I'd never felt. It was hot and everywhere, unconsiousness took me.
It appeared before me then, wrapped in wings black as night. Stretched skin over brittle bones. Two hooked horns swooped up from his brow, eyes red as embers at their core. It silently hovered toward me as it's wings spread out wide. Rusted armor covered it's torso, shoulders and groin. Slimy black hair covered the remaining form, something not of our realm.
In it's clenched hand was a blade of the brightest silver, simple it it's design and clearly meant for death. Four sided to a point and clean as any piece of modern surgery implements. He offered me a question, the voice was rasp and low. "Life for life?" I looked to my wound and looked to him and knew what he meant. I nodded in agreement. In the next blink his blade shot through me though he never moved a muscle. It was cold and fulfilling. I could feel the laceration begin to mend.
It's wings closed back around the form. Only shadow and horns visible as it turned away. In my mind I hear a whisper of a voice not my own. "I'll be back for what is mine, your sins are forgiven now and until my return. You've paid in blood but my cost is more. See you soon."
