Waiting preparation
words are gushing from the page.
Rushing sequences and plots:
in lines along a mental maze.
Twists and turns contend with
the wall that interrupted everything.
It had to be salvaged,
but work began too late,
held up by mental litigation
and lobbyists who in their own minds
believe themselves to be something else.
By the time ground was broken
and the project got under way,
complications were comfortably settled in,
at leisure in our absence
and ready to but up a sedentary fight.
Sweat, toil, a little blood from knuckles and calluses,
the work was finished,
but the plans had to be discarded.
The replacement blueprint,
though strikingly similar in structure,
is slightly different in foundation,
and completely unalike
in surface detail.
But, the function remains unchanged,
and the feeling of the place
may even be more fitting
of its future residents.
