Three Beavers at The River

There once was three busy little beavers. These beavers were the best builders on Earth. There was no river they couldn’t dam, nor a house they couldn’t erect. They barely knew each other, since they’ve worked separately, each with their own projects. All of them lived in a forest that had every animal on Earth. It was so vast, so wide and so beautiful. Each little beaver worked for their best and everyone knew them for their great building skills. However, they were also shunned by some envy-filled animals. It so happened in many occasions that animals like the fox tricked one of the beavers into evil stuff, like trapping themselves inside a build of their own. The cruelest thing they could do was destroy their most prized creations. Because of this, the beavers had certain prejudice against all the other animals, thinking they wanted to trick them or waste their time. All of them, but one, felt that they must seclude themselves as much as they could at the first hint of a lie going on.

One day, all the three beavers were called for by Mr. Owl, known to be the wisest animal on Earth. The three beavers were surprised to see each other, given that they’ve barely heard of each other. The Owl was quick to mention his purpose to this reunion.

“I have bad news, dear little beavers! A storm is coming! And it’s unlike anything we’ve seen before! My friend, the Hawk,  tried to fly South to get to a mountain range and visit his family. To his bad luck, a storm came in his way and he claims it could threaten our forest!” The beavers looked at each other in disbelief.

“I’d like to give you this task. Build a bridge over the main river so that the animals of the forest can get out of harm’s way at the other side. The storm should arrive in three days, so I advise you to hurry!” The owl flew away after that, leaving the three beavers alone.

The beavers knew the main river was a fierce thing to deal with. They didn’t know where to start. Each of them started working on their own and looking for wood and stone to build the bridge. One of the beavers, however, wasn’t lifting a paw at all.

“Doesn’t this sound like nonsense?” said the lazy beaver. “A storm has never hit our forest and never will. This isn’t as big of a deal as that owl claims it to be. I’d say we shouldn’t be gullible and stop wasting our time.”

After those words, the second beaver was quick to agree with the claim. All that was left was the smallest beaver, working alone in the huge project.

Three days come by and the clouds started to turn grayish. The winds began blowing harder every day, and drizzle started to dampen the earth to mushy plains of dirt. The little beaver finished all of the project on his own. He was proud of his work, but he was aware that he got no help from his teammates, up to the point where he felt somewhat bitter towards them.

The animals came in by the time the storm got stronger. All of them, birds, dogs, cats, bears, wolves, monkeys, tigers, zebras, elephants, llamas, horses, camels, and many more passed through the bridge without any trouble. The day was saved. The storm calmed down and came to a brief halt. Before the beavers could leave, however, the Owl came in.

“Congratulations! Our souls were saved thanks to your hard work and effort, but beware, folks. This is only the eye of the storm, and at any time, we might need to come back.” With these cautionary words, the owl fled into the skies.

The little beaver was very angry at the other two beavers. He was so angry, he refused to work at the bridge again, since it wasn’t fair from them to abandon him. The two remaining beavers argued that the bridge is done, at least. To their surprise, the bridge fell down on the next day. The other two beavers started to take everything seriously and began to work on the new bridge. However, the little beaver watched from afar, thinking it was fair to let them be and compensate for abandoning him in the first place. The two working beavers started to get worried and begged for the help of the small beaver, since they could get the bridge to stay erect for more than a few hours. They tried apologizing to the little beaver to get his help, to no avail. The water from the main river was getting wilder with every hour that passed. So, the beavers had an idea: they’d make the bridge at the final hour, just before the river could break it apart over time.

The eye of the storm passed and the animals had to move back to their previous side of the river. All of the animals had to traverse across an ugly-looking bridge, but that didn’t matter right now! Every one of the animals stepped into the long bridge, but suddenly, the foundations started to break and the bridge began collapsing. The weight of every single animal in the forest wasn’t considered, and as such, all of the animals fell into the river. All of them, birds, dogs, cats, bears, wolves, monkeys, tigers, zebras, elephants, llamas, horses, camels, and many more fell into the roaring waters of the river. The river grew in size and it eventually picked up a little beaver that was napping next to it, taking the last missing animal from the forest.

Because the storm was so fierce and powerful, the animals were spat into the sea at random. Some animals, like the tigers and the zebras, ended up together in a hot, hot island, while other animals, like the camels and the monkeys, would never see each other again. All of the animals were thrown to different parts of the world, to never visit their beloved home, their paradise, their dear forest ever again. Ever since then, not all animals know each other, live very far away from one another, and beavers always make sure to build dams across rivers, working together, no matter their differences.
