the iron was rusted and the metal warped

yet the cage remained

the key was lost and the reason forgotten

yet the pain withheld



the emotion had faded and was partly lost

but the feelings grew

the warning flared and was almost blinding

but the yearning grew



the lock was broken and weakness came in

still her fear stayed

the hope was forming and dreams took wings

still her doubts stayed



the boy was flirting and hugs were shared

as the trust was built

the two agreed things should go slow

as the friendship built



the boy was curious and asked her thoughts

for the truth remained

the two just weren't ready to get close

for the scars remained



the days went by and the tention passed

then the question came

the girl asked what he had planned

then the answer came



the future led them on two differnt roads

and the end was there

the girl knew she would miss him dearly

and the hurt was there



the plan was to avoid him from now on

so she wouldn't be scarred again

the cage was already being rebuilt

so she couldn't be scarred again



the girl is looking back on the past

now that he's gone

the boy is regretting letter her go
