No matter where my grandfather is, whereas he’s at his home or at his office, he will have a book to show us. Literature books, graphic books, picture books he’s got them all. Many of them were gifts, many of them were bought on his own, but no matter which book he shows, it will come no only with the message printed, but with the emotions and thought of my wise grandfather. As he turns the pages, his face will be filled with wonder and bliss, as if it was the first time he reads or sees the printed pictures. My cousins and I, we would wander from time to time, searching for books to look at, looking at maps, pictures of decades ago when our grandpa was young. Whenever we ask him about any subject at all, he’ll know where to look, because he’ll have a book. If I ever go by his office, which he shares with my dad, I’ll stop and talk with him for a long time, we would talk and talk, and he will take a big magazine, book or his brand new National Geographic copy.
All my life, since I can remember, there was always a National Geographic magazine addressed to my grandfather, many of them stock in a bookshelf downstairs, where many other books are kept. Is always a big surprise to take one of those books and see how old and preserve they are, encyclopaedias for example. Big old dusty Encyclopaedias, so old that they are almost obsolete in information, without upgrades the things you find there are incomplete. Next to them, you can see rows and rows of a National Geographic Collection; god only knows how many are there.
Is an incredible thing how much interest my old grandpa can put into these magazines, how he enjoys looking at the pictures taken from all around the world, pictures that don’t need words to be described.
Moving through the bookshelf, below the encyclopaedias and Nat Geo Magazines, there more books to find, most of them so old, that with one little touch they’ll turn o dust. The books are in rows, from newest to old I like to imagine, classic novels and other novels with weird names.
My grandfather has a great variety of books, which he takes time to read, appreciate and enjoy. He’s full with stories from his past, which he can relate to the books he has. As he starts to speak, you can feel how much he loves to know, Love for knowledge. Encouraging all of us, his beloved family to take the same passion for learning more and never being ignorant.
