I know you've got your reasons,

And I know I've got mine,

And I know this won't get easier,

With anything but time.



And so all I'm asking for,

Is a little bit of space,

To hang on to my heart,

And to remember my face.



And just please don't let me go,

But don't keep me too close.

Oh it's over, I know,

But I couldn't stand it,

If you let me go.



I guess I always knew that,

You'd realize in time,

That you were too good for me,

And you'd leave me behind.



And now all I'm looking for,

Is someone who will be,

Everything that you were,

Plus everything that I need.



But I won't let you go,

But I won't keep you too close,

Cause it's over, I know,

But I couldn't stand it,

If I let you go.



And so all we need to do,

Is remember what we had,

And if we find we were wrong,

Well maybe that's not so bad.



So just don't let this go,

But do keep it too close,

Cause it's over, we know,

But maybe someday we'll find,

It won't let us go.
