Apostle Saint Matthew's Gospel tells us what Jesus said,
about a mere five loaves of the local bread;
and, drawn from the lake's shallow, two small fishes;
and He gave command, Bring them hither to me.
Now those, I suggest, function as a metaphor or simile
(in this world that denies both with relentless steadiness):
representing my hopes, aspirations and wishes
that I might bring them before His throne without dread,
without fear, and without any awkward hesitation.
I have already received Christ's gracious invitation
to come unto Him to find the assurance of salvation.
Now, though my life is a wreck, the Scriptures lead
my soul to His throne, to Grace to help in time of need---
Grace to help, Christ's compassion---is always ready.
