@ 27.055 MHz: Ad Astra; An Old Man Remembered

Age, illness, and destitute poverty

marred his fragile beauty most insidiously.

Remember the erotic photography

that depicted his nineteen year old adolescence,

naked, or almost naked:  peak efflorescence,

defiant of prejudiced prudery

to deliver to other young men the fantasy

of (then elusive) homogenic intimacy.

His beauty will be restored in Love's eternity:

this confident hope I declare in poetry.

Author's Notes/Comments:

After Constantine Cavafy's poem, "An Old Man" (translated by Keeley and Sherrard).

When the phrase "almost naked" appears in my poetry, it refers to being naked with just socks on.

The seventh line refers to my own experience.

The ninth line alludes to 1 John 4:8.
