Perhaps the sun had ascended to noon
when the Son of God stood before the tomb
of Lazarus, and the stone had been rolled away.
And Jesus, God's Word and Love in the flesh also knew
perfectly that very, very soon,
He, crucified to death for our sake,
must also, having shed His blood, lay
enclosed in a borrowed tomb
in burial, but death could not presume
to hold Him: Who came forth alive before the break
of dawn on that Pascal Day.
