Some say time is just an illusion created by man
But time is very real
Time is a giant, and we live in its shadow
Time is an acquaintance living in your guest bedroom
And talking too loud when you're trying to sleep
Time is a friend that tells you one day to live wild and carefree
And the next day, it tells you to stay inside where you're safe
Time is very real
But just because something is real
Doesn't mean you have to believe it
Time is not tangible
Though its children are all around, and you can feel them and see them
As cars pass on your way to work
Or when you take your shoes off after a long day
But when something is not touchable, one might assume it could be avoided
Or even dismissed altogether
And one can do that with time
At least for a little while
If you're up to the challenge
And then,
I guess "a little while"
wouldn't mean much to you at all?
Time doesn't sugarcoat anything
It doesn't lie to you or to anyone
It will tell you if you're bad with relationships
Or if you're bad at remembering to feed the goldfish
Or if you're slacking off too much to keep your grades up
Time will hit you on the head
And whip you into shape
And nag until you don't forget
In that cruel voice you hate so much
Time is not always bad, though
Don't get me wrong
Time is good
Time is resourceful, just as it is a resource
Time gets things done before anyone could
Time cures disease and restores the earth
Time closes wounds and dresses them with clean, white bandages
Time is comfortable, though it runs faster than any human's legs can match
Time is a pillow you can rest your head on
You can feel safe trusting in time
Time won't let you down; it always does what it intends to do
Don't get angry with time
If it disappoints you, only your own expectations are to blame
