My Mother’s Painting (Prose Poem)
My mother favorite hobby is to paint. She has many of her paintings in our house. Every painting represents something different. The painting that has a more significant meaning for her is “Feelings” or “Sentimientos”. This painting is located in my house in the hallway near the stairs. Everyday I see the painting when I am on my way to go upstairs or downstairs. Each time I see it, it reminds me about my mother when we were together painting and how she was so concentrated in what she was doing. In every single painting, every detail was perfect and beautiful. It also makes me remember when we went together to buy art supplies, and she wanted to buy the whole store because she loved everything, either was an pencil for drawing or an Indian ink. Another memory that it makes me remember is the happiness of my mom because every time she brings home a new painting she is so exited. It also reminds me how she frequently does paintings for people she loves or admires because it is her way to say thank you. Other memory that it brings back is that in our painting class, our teacher put our easels close to each other so we can be together. This amazing painting, which has a special meaning for my mother, has an even more special meaning to me because it represents the kind of parent and person my mother is. Over the years, she has taught me that I need to fight for my dreams and never give them up. Another thing that she taught me is that you can achieve every single thing you want and that you are your only limit because only you can limit yourself nobody else can. In this painting, she expressed that everyday it is a battle in oneself between what you want achieve and what it is a limitation for you to do that. She also expressed in it, when fighting against yourself, you need to be careful so you do not lose yourself in the process. I admire how beautiful this painting is for its meaning and for its the view in the canvas. “Feelings” makes me think of how a great person is my mom and how I want to be a good person like she is. It makes me to keep trying my best, to be myself at all times, and never give up.
