Race Day

Soft spoken words

So sly and so cunning

Cut at the heart

Of the one running.

The race of life,

She's run that race

And tried to keep up

With the fast pace.

All those words,

The words of slander

Caused her to slow

And begin to meander.

Off the course

Did she stray

And begin to find

A different way.

A shortcut in life,

Far off the path.

No more suffering

Those words of wrath.

A little less food,

Here and there, she ate

Until she thought

She looked skinny and great.

Little became less

And less became none.

Her life became nothing

As she withered in the sun.

Friends began to worry

As she grew weak.

They knew she needed help

So help did they seek.

"Go to the doctors

Before its to late.

The time ticks by

And there's no time to wait."

She went to the doctors.

Her body so frail,

She fainted right there.

The doctors they haled.

The doctors had tried

Their very best

To keep her alive

But now did she rest.

Those hateful words

Had now done their last

As she had lost

That pace just too fast.

Her body now lay

In a morgue cold and dead

And the people around her,

Such tears did they shed.

Now they were sorry

They had said such things

That had caused her to take

Up her celestial wings.

This sad tale of woe

Of what words can do

Can teach you a lesson

And help keep it untrue.
