Day Dream

What a long strange trip it's been
Still breathing, Through thick and thin
Lost a lot of friends, Worst of all my self respect
First of all I need a place where I can rest my neck
I placed a bet on my hand and I lost the pot to a flush
But someone rigged the deck, I'm telling you they must
There's nothing like a cool breeze on a warm summer day
To get a break from the heat; There has to be another way
I hate to come back so soon, I'd rather stay away
I won't take my pain to the moon, I'll leave it at my wake
Looking at the good, Attempting to alleviate the bad
You can make a better future but can't eliminate the past
What's true is fact and what's been proved is truth
A liar's sharp tongue can cut down trees, but never rip the roots
They gave me enough rope to hang myself, Oh no
Then the Devil showed up with a quid pro quo
There's many directions this could go, Exhausting as it is
I've spent enough time dancing, Something's got to give
I close my eyes and day dream, Go where I want to go
Bathing in the sunset, With the sand between my toes
Everything is just fine, I'm clean and I'm serene
Then I wake up in cold sweats.. it all was just a dream
