There is a child inside of me, 

She tries to hide from all she sees.

Scared of everything, but oh so strong;

She keeps me safe from all the harm.

She keeps all the memories, 

The ones too bad for me to see.

So that I may go about my day,

Finding joy in every way.

No one knows, not even me,

All the torture that she has seen.

The pain she holds, the scars endured,

So that I may always feel assured. 

It's because of her that I'm able to live;

She makes my mind like a sieve.

Letting me keep what I can stand,

While catching what she has deemed banned. 

I guess this is a letter of thanks,

For all her love and her grace.

Without her I'd never be,

The woman that stands before me.

What she does has saved my life

And protected me from all the strife.

So little girl, I say thank you;

I hope some day I can save you too.
