I look down
At my plate
And decide
That the meal
Isn't to my taste
Though looking at
My sister's
Or my parent's
Reveal a delicious treat

Though once wishing to exchange
I suddenly realize
My new meal
Looks all the same
And now that I envy
The one held
By the one neighboring me
I look up
At my friends

And sing
I look up
At my friends
Who are occupied
With other human beings
Whom they kiss
And love
I look to my left
And I look to my right
I look up
And I look down
And all I'm seeing
Are meals
I'd love to have
But can never
