The Night I Cursed the Snow
I still remember your footprints
You left in the snow the other day.
The white powder formed a protection
Around your foot.
And although you never noticed,
I made sure that
the snowflakes that fell
From the smokey pink sky
never covered your face
or our memories.
The air shrouded us,
and all i smelt was
misty leaves under the snow,
and your breath
as you whispered to me
how beautiful the night was.
and I heard
the many damp laughs
of all the spirits
that must have been watching us
that night,
clapping their hands
because they too
must have heard your whisper.
and as we headed
to the coldness
of the rest of our lives,
I cursed the snowflakes
as they began to go against my wish
and slowly fill in our memories
as they covered your face
and your footprints.
