WHEN I CAME IN TODAY
ON MY DESK THERE SAT
A SMALL VOTIVE CANDLE HOLDER
FILLED WITH FRUIT FLAVORED CANDY CANES.
JUST ANOTHER OF THE SWEET THINGS
MY PARTNER DOES FOR ME
SEEMS LIKE JUST WHEN I NEED IT
HE SURPRISES ME WITH SOMETHING.
ONE DAY A COLOR PRINTER
ANOTHER DAY A 17" MONITOR
A WONDERFUL CARD OR FLOWERS
NO MATTER WHAT THE GIFT, FOR ME IT IS THE THOUGHT.
I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED ANYTHING HE GIVES ME
BUT TODAY OF ALL DAYS IT WAS ONE OF THOSE STRANGE THINGS
TODAY WAS MY MOM'S BIRTHDAY, SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN 66
SHE LOVED THESE LITTLE CANDIES, JUST SORT OF MADE ME SMILE.
I DID NOT TELL MY PARTNER HER LOVE FOR THESE CANDIES.
FOR FEAR HE WOULD THINK THAT IT WAS THE WRONG CHOICE.
I THINK THAT IT WAS THE GREAT SPIRIT LEADING HIM
WHY ELSE WOULD HE HAVE PICKED JUST THE THING SHE LOVED BEST.
