OLYMPIC GAMES
I SIT HERE WATCHING THE SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES
WATCHING THE FACES, HEARING ALL THE NAMES.
THE STORIES ARE ALL DIFFERENT MOST OF THEM SAD
THE ROMANIAN WEIGHTLIFTING TEAM KICK OUT THAT'S BAD.
DON'T THEY KNOW THAT THEY WILL TEST FOR DRUGS OF ANY TYPE?
MAYBE THEY THINK IT IS JUST SOME SPORT NEWS HYPE.
I HATE TO HEAR THINGS LIKE THIS, IT'S JUST BREAKS MY HEART
BUT YOU HAVE TO PLAY FAIR YOU SHOULD LEARN THIS FROM THE START.
THE SWIMMING IS JUST ONE OF THE EVENTS THAT GETS ME GOING
SWIMMERS LOOKING LIKE FISH PARTICIPATING IN SOME DANCE THING.
GYMNASTICS, NOW THAT IS SOMETHING THAT TAKES MY BREATH
IF I HAD TO DO SOME OF THOSE THINGS, I WOULD FALL TO MY DEATH.
THEY COME PREPARED TO RUN, SWIM, BIKE AND DO SO MUCH MORE.
NO ONE FEELING THAT THEY MISSED OUT ON LIFE THIS TO THEM NO CHORE.
DIFFERENT KINDS OF PEOPLE SHARING ONE MOMENT IN WHAT WILL BE HISTORY
WHEN AWARDED THE MEDAL FOR THEIR SPORT, THEY DON'T SEEM TO BE IN ANY HURRY.
THIS WILL GO ON FOR JUST TWO WEEKS EVERY FOUR YEARS
YOU WILL SEE SMILES OF HAPPINESS, YOU WILL ALSO SEE TEARS.
SOME WILL MAKE IT THROUGH, REWARDED WITH GREAT FAME
OTHERS WILL WALK AWAY FROM THEIR SPORT HEAD HUNG IN SHAME.
I HOPE THAT ALL KNOW THAT THEY ARE THE BEST IN THIER FIELD.
THEN THERE ARE THOSE FROM THE PRESS WE HAVE TO SHIELD.
IT IS REALLY AWESOME TO SEE EACH ONE GIVE IT THEIR ALL.
TO SEE THEM STEP UP TO THE PLATE, STANDING VERY TALL.
Renee' You know about my sister Carrie? She went to the jr.olympics for gymnastics. She took gold in all of her competitions, but broke her arm badly while on her last, which was floor. She was training for the Olympics, and after that happened, she was never the same again. these guys Do give it their all, they are so dedicated to their chosen sports, and it is a way of life for them, as poetry is a way of life for us. Great subject! :)

Hi Renee Been on holidays, so sorry for taking so long to get to your poetry. I just loved this one heaps. I am a great fan of the Olympic Games and seeing it is being held in my country as well, tis all rather exciting for me!!!!!! You portrayed these two weeks of competition so well. I enjoyed the read heaps and will put this one down in my favourites book. Thanks for sharing it with us and keep up the good work. A great tribute to all Olympians! Those participating in the "scheduled" games and to those who fall just short of their goals. They went the distance, gave it their all, did their best. That's all anyone can do. Thanks for sharing with us. Kris
