On her bed, she yanked at sections of her hair
She pulled and tore at the shirt that now seemed to suffocate her
Crashing down to the pillow she screamed into
The same one that used to cradle the mind of a dreamer
She kicked and swung punches at her mattress
But relief didn’t come
In darkness she hovered
Tears pouring from her eyes as she gave up trying to hold them back
A heart in her chest so big it felt like it was imploding
Damaging everything in its path
Her room, now a cage
Drowning her in the same sadness
Over and over
Like waves crashing over you again and again, when you’ve already gone under
Her parents downstairs never suspecting a thing was wrong
Not hearing the screams or cries
Never feeling the kicks and punches
She sat alone in the dark because she was broken
And only she and a boy knew why.
