We Meet Once Again

Tonight was the night,

dark as it was,

that I invited you in.

We’re both as wary,

as you walk in

of each other sin.

There aren’t any smiles,

or frowns,

or tears.

Just two faces,

like stone and ice.

Silence enters,

as we both sit,

separately but together.

Our eyes make contact,

and seconds,

go on forever.

There was love there once,

without,

a doubt.

But now it’s a dust

of lust and desperation.

‘Hi’

You open your mouth.

with a squeak,

of a greeting.

‘Hello’

I force out a reply,

so to,

start this meeting.

Another pause.

After the bait,

we wait.

My glaze on your lips,

and your glaze on mine.

‘I’m Sorry’

And just like that,

a punch in the gut

for  conversation flare.

,All function stops.

my thoughts lost,

to a brain of loose air.

‘That makes two of us…’

That makes two of us?

is the best I’ve got,

In this cliched scene.

And we both just sit,

half a smile there.

The best it could have been.
