morning stares down the land
we awake
the brutish and unkempt.
a sea of neon yellow marches
the steel weight kills my nerves
no longer the shoulder of burden burns
the rust seeps in
under nail, into skin
close the mind
wield the muscle
forget your world
build theirs instead
ignorance is bliss.
Enjoy my strength long after I'm dead,
that holds the roof above your head.
Thankless task
all I ask
is succour
