Bushfires (Revised Edition)

Folder:
Bizarre/Death

raging tongues of fire one savage day,

devouring lives and things away;

the crackling sound of destruction

has paved a cracking ground

to stomping feet and screaming fits;

leaving traces of ashes in a tray.

properties done; memories gone

of life full of fun,

all were swept in that blazing windy hell

blasting deadly fireballs,

ferociously licking everything away.

heatwaves of temper rose

to infernal heights arouse;

like adrenalin rushing through the veins:

hard to control; to extinguish was vain.

smoke clouds impeded visions

choking breath to death of treason;

firemen, sirens and whistle tops,

buckets of sand, even tons of rain

proved helpless under heaven's curse.

bushes, houses, shrubs and trees fell

lives so precious melt who can tell?

now the place is dead and bare.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Author's Note:

I wrote this poem in 2006 and posted in one of the poetry forums. This posting is in tribute to the recent bushfires that once more has plagued this country. I personally call this unredeemable catastrophe a "Summer Hell". This is an edited revised edition from my original posting.
