beautiful burden

a meandering haze
that just won't leave.
it stays
like a lingering hangover
for those of us drunk
on your existence.

as I gasp, silently,
at the symmetry
of your removal:
       your weight,
       evenly spread among our hearts
       to carry.

yet how
together, we temper
the calamity
into manageable tears
which bring the clarity
that life is, at its best,
uncertain,
and though
we must shoulder its collective load,
your absence
is the most beautiful burden.
