The Locket

In a time long ago,

In a land where people wore lockets wherever they go

They wore them on chains, they wore them on string.

But the lockets had a secret, which the people didn’t know

You see no matter how much they tried to fill its empty place

There weren’t enough things to fill its space

They tried hammers, they tried rocks

To fill the lockets empty spot

But no matter how much they tried

The lockets still felt empty inside

Where the hammers fell and where the rocks it

Left big cracks on the lockets and split them in half

The people didn’t know how to fix them

Or what to do with their lockets that been torn in two

Now was a person like me and you

Her name was Sophie; her locket was small and worn on a thread

People would tease her about her hair and the locket she wore

They would call her bad names

But she has heard them all before

Tears would fill her eyes with every word they said

They would laugh some more at every tear she shed

Oh how she wished they go away and just go home

If only they could leave her alone

They would hit her hard and cause cracks on her fragile little heart

Where to find help, she didn’t know where to start

Why they teased her, she didn’t know why

Why they would laugh, every time she cried

Then she looked down at her locket and sighed

If only there was someone to fix my broken heart

To mend the cracks, and fill this empty space

She then sat down under a tree

Put her head between her knees

Then she felt a gentle hand touch her head

And with the sweetest voice the stranger said

Oh dear child, will you tell me what’s wrong

What caused those tears that you’ve been crying for so long?

Oh dear child, will you tell me what’s wrong

She lifted up her face and could not believe

That the sweet kind voice she heard

Was from none other the great king

She then looked down and could barely speak

The king then lifts up her head

Wipes the tears streaming down her cheeks

And then she begins to speak

Oh dear king, these tears that you’ve seen

Are because of the way people laughed and they tease

Whenever they see me walk down the street

They push me down and call me bad names

They mock and they poke about my hair

They even make fun of this locket I wear

The things they say about me must be true

Causes why would they do, what they do

The king then looked into her sad eyes

He then held her close and began to cry

As if to say its hurts me too

Then once again he began to speak

My dear child, listen closely to me

The things they say about you are not true

I should know, for I made you

Oh dear Sophie, for you are precious to me

You are my princess and I am your king

You are beautiful and smart

So don’t listen to what they say

Even though they may mock and they may tease

It’s only to hide the cracks in the lockets their wearing

Just like you, their hurting too

Just as Life has caused deep cracks within your heart and split into two

It’s done the same for them, as it has done to you

People will try as they might to fill its space

They use hammers and rocks

Even say mean words to others, as I’ve been told

All to fill its empty hole

But I know the secret and I know the truth

The only true thing that can fill those hearts

And mend those cracks that torn them in two

Is the love and mercy that I freely give

And I would gladly do it, if they asked me too

Then Sophie thought about the words he said

Looked at her locket hanging from a thread

Looked into the kings eyes and said

Oh dear king, is it really true

That you would fix they hearts

If they asked you too

He then nodded and answered clear

Yes, my dear Sophie, it is true my dear

Every single word I have said to you.

She then took her locket

All cracked and small

And asked as tears began to fill her eyes

Oh dear king, would you do the same for me?

He then wipes her tears with his gentle hands

Kisses her forehead and says

I will gladly do it to for you

Not just because you asked

But because my dear child I love you

He then takes the locket all broken and small

Then places it right on his heart

That’s when the most miraculous thing began to start

A flash of light began to glow

Time seemed to stop and everything slowed

Then the king placed the locket in her hands

And what she saw, she couldn’t believe

That her locket that had been cracked and broken in two

Was now suddenly brand new

No longer was it hung on a thread,

It was now hung on a silver chain

And not a single crack had remained

Then the king looked at her and said

My dear Sophie, now open it and look

No longer is it empty, there’s no longer a void

For I have put my love inside

Then she opened it and looked inside

No longer dark as it use to be

Now there resided a bright warm light

It was full of love

It was bright as the stars that shone in the night

It was warm like the sun when it begins to rise

Sophie then felt true happiness and joy for the first time

There were no longer tears of sadness in her eyes

She then hugged the king

And asked is this really for me

He then looks into her eyes and says

Yes, my dear child it’s for you

And I would do it all again

She then smiles at the king

He then says can you do something for me

She then replies anything for you my dear king

The king says go and tell everyone what you have seen

Go tell them about me, tell them about how much I love them

Tell them about the locket and how it use to be

How it was broken and split in two

Tell them about how I fixed it and made it brand new

All just because I truly love you

Go tell them dear child, go tell them this story

So that they might be free from the pain and the hurt

Caused by the cracks in their hearts that run deep

Go tell them dear child.

Sophie then nodded and replied to the king

I will go tell them, oh I will, my dear king

About what you have done for me

How you mended my heart and set me free

And you did it all because you love me.

She then hugged the king once again

Then they waved goodbye and headed their separate ways

Sophie then told her story to everyone she could meet

About her locket that once hung on a string

About that time under the tree

Where she met the kind, and loving king

Who fixed her locket and made it brand new

All because he truly loved her

And about how it could happen to them too.
