Stainless Key Chain

This is a stainless key chain with a thick piece of foam on the center, and it was given to  me when I graduated from my middle school. It might be insignificant, maybe I had never used for my keys, you may say its junk, but there’s something special about it. It’s one of the only things that I haven’t lost, and I usually lose a lot of things because I am not very responsible. But it has always been there in my room motionless, but always there. It was given to me because I was part of the school “San Patricio Cumbres” since I was a baby. Some other kids and me were the first generation to enter the school when it was founded. Each generation that started when the school was founded was given a certain present, but my generation was different. We were the ones to be given a different present, this stainless metal key chain. It´s so simple but so unique. Because we were the last generation of “founders” to graduate from the school, we were given a special present. That key chain marks a point in my life of big changes. It remarks my past, my future and my present. It marks where the past started with innocence and ignorance. A past full of me growing up, learning to be a good student, make new friends, but still trying to find who I will be. It marks where the future will start, with greatness and carelessness. The future where I already found the person I am, I have grown, no longer student but another in this world, with a family of my own, and still there’s much I still don’t know about the future. Then there’s the present. Here and now. Where the past and the future are irrelevant to me. In the present I am becoming the real me, I am making new friends, and I am studying hard. The past won’t define me, and the future is not written, that’s the freedom the present gives me. That’s what this key chain has made me think since the past, in the present, and will make me think in the future. But the stainless metal key chain, won’t change. So even if I lose it (with the luck I have maybe I will) this essay is proof of what the key chain has done for me.
