How Mellow Were You
All those years ago.
And how sweet, did you taste.
An inner warmth, you created.
With, each breath...., inhaled.
Slowly changing, the colour, of my life.
As grey smoke, silently spiralled.
And yellow,
was the colour, that it brought.
That tinged fingers.
Tainted teeth .....
And
Faded the paper, on living room walls.
Not so sweet, 40 years on.
That rasping cough.....
That lasts the night, until the dawn.
That short intake of breath.
Like a lovers squeeze.....
That filled my lungs, with a blackness.
Only mirrored, by the one.
Found,
in my heart......and.
Filled it, full of
