I wasn’t always this guarded;
other people built my wall
brick by brick.
It’s been cemented with tears,
bonded by years
of broken trust.
Every time I try to remove a layer,
they only replace it
and make the wall higher.
Now it’s impenetrable,
a fortress over my heart.
No one can tear me down;
they may chip away at me,
but they only scratch the facade.
I am a stronghold of secrets,
secured by shattered hopes
and unrequited love.
I can only wish that
someday someone
will deconstruct my wall
brick by brick.
