I thought I loved once
But I opened more than my mind
And what fell in was
Only lust and yearnings
For what was never mine.
I tripped over wisdom
Into what I know now
And what a fall it was
As I watched innocence
Crack on lesson’s pavement.
Simplicity was in the past-
Lost in laughs in the crook
Of your elbow or smiles
Traced by youth’s touch.
Some things are lost forever
Like my memories of you.
