Choking on Lies

Some lies can be downright suffocating. The air around you can become so thin that your very core is gasping for breath. You feel like your lungs are imploding. And there’s nothing you can do but hope over time you’ll be able to ingest it.

This particular lie left me hyperventilating. I was in panic mode; I just couldn’t believe his lips. I took a swig of his words, but for the life of me, they would not stay down. I felt the need to purge them.

On the other hand, the truth hidden behind the lie was just as frightening.

Sometimes I'm not sure which is harder to swallow: the lie or the truth.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Inspired by: "There are some things we do because we convince ourselves it would be better for everyone involved. We tell ourselves that it's the right things to do, the altruistic thing to do. It's far easier than telling ourselves the truth."
