I saw the look in your eyes
Like I had angered you
Beyond revocation
By offering an ultimatum-
See me now, or never.
I awarded you
The freedom of choice,
The ability to choose
If and when
You wanted to speak me.
You choose to neglect me;
You choose to abandon
A friend in favor of others
Who didn’t value you
As much as I did.
That’s the problem
With freedom:
Too little and you
Struggle to break free,
Too much- you never return.
I know I had once
Smothered you,
But I’d hoped,
Given the choice,
You’d still want to see me.
I was wrong.
