Statistics show one in six
Women are raped at
Some point in their lives.

I beg to differ.

I think all women are
Sexually violated
All throughout our lives.

We’re not raped
By any man in particular
But by society at large,

A society that tells us
What to wear to turn men on,
What to say to make them want us.

But never do they tell us
How to stop the hollowing pain
After day breaks.

It follows us through the day
And more agonizingly into the night
When we go through the motions again.

Why do we do it?
Is it worth it in the end?

Does the pleasure of being wanted
For one night outweigh
The tears in the morning?

Of course not.

But as long as women
Feel that ubiquitous void
Society will continue to fill it.
