No Place like Home

I tried to define myself

apart from your association

so I went outside of

accommodating abodes.

I stumbled onto fantasy lands

and made friends with

those who lacked everything

but my best interests.

As much as I appreciated

the new surroundings-

the colorful vistas,

they just weren’t you.

I missed the familiarity

of your comforting arms,

though I once considered

them a dull, grey prison.

I was a long way from home,

hoping desperately to be

returned from my dreams

and find you still my reality.
