I let you in closer
than anyone
has ever been,
opening myself to you-
revealing the secret
corridors of my mind,
body and soul.
You held me the way
only you can
with fingers caressing
exposed skin and
arms wrapped
around a broken spine,
mending it.
I told you
to be careful
with the bruises
on my arms
[from being pushed away]
and on my back
[the lashes of lost love].
Your hands left
permanent impressions
on my delicate bones,
markings I will
display proudly
when you dared to
pull me in even more.
I wear them
as evidence that I
was willing to be
unguarded,
in hopes you’d
deem me worthy
of capture.
A compliant prisoner
with unlocked heart,
desperate for
the key to yours;
but you kept
it from me
and pulled away.
