I think adults are the ones
who should be playing pretend
more so than children.
After all, white lies are just
a game of dress-up,
a costume worn over reality.
But, instead, we feign composure
because temper tantrums are
expected to stay behind with childhood.
So, we bottle up our emotions
leading to extreme breakdowns.
Was it worth acting like we were "fine"?
If only, we could cry when the urge arose,
kick and scream when we don’t get our way.
At least they couldn’t accuse us of denial.
