On the street corner
sits a man that poured
his last dollars into a
bottle after another
lay-off because he
doesn't have an address
leaving him with nothing
left to rub together
except bare feet against
cold pavement.
On the hospital bed
lies a widowed woman
who was just told she has
only three weeks to live
as she staggers through
her mind to see if
there is anyone who
will visit her before
she goes, and draws
a blank.
In the middle of a crowd
stands an African girl
orphaned by AIDS now
caring for five younger
siblings waiting for a
package from her American
sponsor but they've
forgotten again this month
and she can't provide for
her family.
I really don’t know
pain at all.
