I do everything I must
in order to not appear
like something's wrong
as I break down in the
comfort of loneliness.
I seal my mouth shut
because they’ve told
me that I have nothing
worth saying so I’m quiet
though I scream inside.
With curtains drawn
and secrets whispered
behind closed doors,
I hide so they won’t heed
my cries for help.
They hear me clearly, but
have learned to disregard
me because they don’t
have the time in the midst
of their own problems.
