One hour later, the phone rings.



"Evelyn, it's for you,” yells her disappointed sister. She was hoping it was for her because she was waiting for a phone call from her friend, Margaret.



Evelyn was watching television in the family room with her father, brother, and sister. She leans over to reach the receiver, and says hello.



"Hi, it's me!" says a voice that Evelyn recognizes as of Victoria, her friend.



"I'm going to the mall to buy Derek something for his birthday. Want to come with me?"



She agrees and says bye to Victoria. They both hang up. Evelyn looks through her closet to pick something to wear. She decides on a baby blue tee and dark denim jeans. She waits by the front door for Victoria.



After about ten minutes, a horn honks. Evelyn looks outside and sees Victoria's red Honda Civic Coupe parked in her driveway. She says bye to her father, brother, and sister sitting in the family room still watching television.



Victoria says hi to Evelyn in the car as she pulls out of the driveway. They get to the mall in twenty minutes.



Inside the town mall, Evelyn asks her friend where she wants to go first. The mall is packed with people. They both agreed on Burdines. The directory shows them that it was in the corner.



"Good. Derek's birthday is on Monday so we have to find something today,” says Victoria once they reach the store.



"He told me he wanted Tommy cologne." They looked for the perfume section. They got the cologne and paid for it. Just as they were walking out of the store Evelyn looks at her watch, it was already well past twelve o'clock. They both decided to go to the food court. They eat at their favorite restaurant in the mall, Cajun Grill. After they finish, Evelyn and Victoria go to a few other stores before leaving for home.



“Bye, Vicky!" Evelyn yells to her friend as she walks down the driveway to the front door. Evelyn walks in just as Tiffany is walking out.



"Where are you going?" asks Evelyn as she walks in. "I'm going to the hospital."



"Why?"



“Come with me and Jon and I will explain in the car."



Jonathan walks down the stairs just as Tiffany finishes speaking. They all walk down the driveway to Tiffany's hunter green Toyota Camry.



"Okay, tell me what happened that we are going to the hospital."



"A nurse at Grandpa Peter's retirement home found him lying on the patio floor unconscious. She thinks he had a heatstroke. She called the hospital and reported him. The ambulance came to take him. They called the house, and Dad went to the hospital."



“Is Grandpa okay?"



“I don't know. Dad said he was going to call us when he could, but he has not called back."
