I traversed
hallways paved
with uncertainty;
staring down
at the solid white line
directing my path,
while my mind
was focused on the goal
though I was
too near-sighted
to distinguish it
among the blurs.
Their voices
pushed me forward;
though, by now,
they were barely
distant echoes
resounding in
my memory-
flashes of fluorescent lights
in my subconscious;
their jealousy
of my ambition
was the most recurrent.
I pray that when I reach
the terminal
they don’t send me away
because I missed
the last boarding call,
and then I must
sit and wait
for the next flight
only to realize
there were no more
scheduled.
