She hid behind the closed curtain,

Because she feared she wouldn’t stand out.

Until one day, she hesitantly took the stage

And stepped into the flickering spotlight

As their judging eyes watched her.



"Look at me," she said,  

"Will you accept me as I am?"



The audience took one look at her

And pointed out all of her flaws.

They said that if she ever wanted to be a star

She had to change everything she was

And become just like them.  



I told her, “Show them

How bright you can shine without them.”
