Daddy,

I needed you to be there for me

But even when you were there physically,

You were so emotionally distant,

I fear these scars you left will never heal.



Daddy,

I needed you to listen to me,

To ask me how my life was going,  

But you'd rather ignore your daughter

And avert your attention to the lives of strangers.



Daddy,

I needed you to be a good example for me,

But you only dragged me down with you,

And I wasn’t strong enough to pick myself up

Let alone pick you up too.



Daddy,

I needed you to be a role model for me,

But you gave into the world like the rest,

And I'm afraid I will follow you

In the footsteps you left behind.



Daddy,

You gave me everything I wanted,

All the material things a girl could ever ask for,

But you failed me in all the ways you were lacking

Because you gave me nothing I needed.
