I was once carefree,
Skipping along pathways
Towards amorous horizons
With you by my side.
I don’t recognize that girl
Anymore nor do I remember
Ever being her as if then I was
Living someone else’s life.
That girl died in your arms
The night you told her to
“Come here” as you held her
Even as she listed your flaws.
Although you forgave me,
Your love for me died then too
To be buried under shallow
Conversations and lustful surfaces.
I hope I can find that girl within
Myself, that girl that was open to
Love despite her broken past so I
May experience what we had again.
